Linear theory of unstable growth on rough surfaces

چکیده

Unstable homoepitaxy on rough substrates is treated within a linear continuum theory. The time dependence of the surface width W (t) is governed by three length scales: The characteristic scale l0 of the substrate roughness, the terrace size lD and the Ehrlich-Schwoebel length lES . If lES ≪ lD (weak step edge barriers) and l0 ≪ lm ∼ lD √ lD/lES , then W (t) displays a minimum at a coverage θmin ∼ (lD/lES), where the initial surface width is reduced by a factor l0/lm. The rôle of deposition and diffusion noise is analyzed. The results are applied to recent experiments on the growth of InAs buffer layers [M.F. Gyure et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 4931 (1998)]. The overall features of the observed roughness evolution are captured by the linear theory, but the detailed time dependence shows distinct deviations which suggest a significant influence of nonlinearities. 68.55.Jk, 81.15.Aa, 68.35.Bs, 81.15.Hi Typeset using REVTEX 1

Ultrasonographic Comparison of Deep Lumbopelvic Muscles Activity in Plank Movements on Stable and Unstable Surface

Purpose: The body core facilitates the transition of forces and moments between the upper and lower extremities in every movement. The present study investigated the differences in the sonographic activity of the deep lumbopelvic muscles during the implementation of plank movements on stable and unstable surfaces. Methods: In total, 16 female athletes with the Mean±SD age of 23.69±3.57 years, ...

Identification of Multiple Input-multiple Output Non-linear System Cement Rotary Kiln using Stochastic Gradient-based Rough-neural Network

Because of the existing interactions among the variables of a multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) nonlinear system, its identification is a difficult task, particularly in the presence of uncertainties. Cement rotary kiln (CRK) is a MIMO nonlinear system in the cement factory with a complicated mechanism and uncertain disturbances. The identification of CRK is very important for different pur...

Molecular dynamics simulations of palladium cluster growth on flat and rough graphite surfaces

Parallel Molecular Dynamics simulations are conducted for describing growth on surfaces with different kind of roughness : a perfect ordered crystalline flat graphite surface, a disordered rough graphite surface and flat surface with an ordered localized defect. It is shown that disordered rough surfaces results in a first step to reduction of the sticking coefficient, increased cluster density...

Comparing the Electromyography Activity of Core Muscles During Side Plank Exercise on Stable and Unstable Surfaces

Objective Numerous abdominal exercises with Swiss ball are used to improve core stability with strengthening and rehabilitation goals. It is claimed that the stability exercises have a greater impact on core muscle activation, but the validity of this claim is still in doubt. Moreover, there is no comprehensive study on the comparison of the core muscles activity in different core stability exe...
